How is possible that the end of 2016 is only days away?!? Holy moly this year went so fast! Don’t think I’m complaining, because I am ready to take on 2017 like never before. This next year is going to be a big one for the Douglas’s and I can’t wait to share with you what’s up our sleeve. But until then, you’ll just have to settle for what we were up to over the holiday weekend.
We were recently asked to shoot some underwater footage for one of Josh’s sponsors for an upcoming video. It’s December. In Minnesota. One might think the best we could do was to shoot it in the bathtub, but there is a little known spot about an hour north of the cities that never freezes. It’s a stretch of the Mississippi River that is downstream of a power plant which allows the water to free-flow year round. This place has also saved my husband’s sanity numerous times from the fishing drought he experiences up here in the winter. It’s a place he normally goes, and I don’t. Because who in their right mind would wake up at 7am on Christmas to go wade in the middle of a river with a camera when it’s 20 degrees out? This gal now, apparently.
To be honest, I was not in the most festive of spirits on the drive up there, knowing what was ahead of me. Sitting on my sofa with a hot cuppa Joe whilst watching the Food Network is more my style on a Saturday morning. Thankfully, my bitterness was short lived and as soon as we got up there, it wasn’t nearly as bad as I was expecting it to be. Both of us got some new Simms waders over the fall so this was my first time using them and I was super impressed with how well they worked. They kept me warm for the conditions and I had no issues walking around in the fast moving current of the river.
We only had a few hours to knock this out since the Vikings vs Packers game kicked off at noon. God forbid we miss that one. I had received a shipment a few days earlier from L.S.D. Designs to photograph some of their line for an upcoming media campaign. In the few hours we were there, we were able to get more than enough video and photos to make everyone happy! The icing on the cake was me catching the only bass of the day! Muahahahahahaha.
On our way home we were driving over the Arcola Bridge on Lake Minnetonka and noticed an animal out in the middle of the ice. Since I had my camera with me, we pulled the truck over and walked out on the ice about 150 yards to check it out. Turns out it was a coyote just hanging out! Wonder what the little guy was doing out there.
Well I'm out for now, but I wish all of you a safe and happy holiday season! See you next year!
Hey there -
I'm Bri! Lover of food, wine, and photography that is currently traveling with my professional bass fishing husband along with our cantankerous rottie, Kigen. When not traveling you can find me living the lake life off the shores of Lake Mille Lacs in Isle, MN. Pour a drink, pull up a chair and join me as I journey across the country documenting it all along the way!
