My husband has horrible allergies. He’s allergic to dust, grass and cats. We don’t have cats but we have plenty of grass and dust hanging around so he’s using our neti pot constantly. A few years back his allergy doctor gave us an easy do it yourself recipe for the solution so we didn’t have to keep buying the packets. It was less waste and less money so we decided to give it a shot. We haven’t bought the packets since. This stuff is so easy to make it makes you wonder why anyone would buy the packets in the first place. It’s only baking soda and salt.
Take equal parts of each and store them in a airtight container for future use. The great thing is that it lasts forever so if you don’t use it all right away, no worries! We like to make batches 1 cup at a time, so take 1/2 cup of baking soda and 1/2 cup of salt. Mix it really well so the ingredients are thoroughly combined. For one neti pot use you will need 1 tsp of the mix. Add to lukewarm water and wait for it to dissolve. When you’re done, be sure to wash your neti pot!! I heard recently that it’s a thing that people don’t wash them after every use, so let me be the one to tell you that this is foul. You’re sticking this up your nose people! Hello germs!! And they wonder why they’re getting a brain eating amoeba. Sheesh. I’ll step down off my soapbox now.
