Another weekend, another exciting progress update! Since I had a 3 day weekend this go-round, I had a much needed extra day to get stuff done. We got so much accomplished this weekend, that we are now officially ahead of schedule! Never thought that would be a thing with the way these renovations have been going. I got up to the house on Saturday morning and immediately went to work. Since Josh kicked ass down on Lake Travis for the 2nd stop of the FLW Tour, but not quite enough ass kicking to fish day 3, that meant that he was officially on his way home which meant that I needed to kick it into high gear to get the walls prepped so we could start painting. Not sure if I've mentioned it before, but Josh has a pretty debilitating dust allergy, so I was in a major time crunch to get all the walls spackled, sanded and washed before he made it back into town. My dad was up for most of Saturday helping me out and we were actually able to get all of it done as well as painting the first coat in our bedroom! The painting of the bedroom was a huge milestone for me. Since there has been so much going on up there and every single room needed something done to it before it could be made liveable, that meant that I really haven't had a designated bedroom up there. If I wanted to go to bed, it's been a very annoying process of moving a bunch of stuff, sweeping, swiffering and mopping each night just so I could put a mattress down. Then I was making the bed each night and tearing it down each morning. Talk about annoying. So the fact that I only had one coat of paint standing between me and my future bedroom was music to my ears! The following morning, my mom came up to help out again and we immediately went to town on the 2nd coat in the bedroom. By the time we were half of the way done, Josh finally made it home. He's been on the road for the entire time that we have owned the house so he hadn't seen any of the progress we'd been making except for the very sporadic pictures I had been sending him. Poor thing was so exhausted from his travels that he pretty much walked in the door, said hi to us then found the only somewhat comfortable spot (the dog's bed) to lay down and take a much needed nap. Kigen didn't even care, he was just happy that his dad was finally home. By the time he woke up, we were done painting and could finally move our stuff in to permanently stay! Holy crap, I cannot even tell you how nice it is to have a bedroom setup there now. And it's so pretty!!! I just LOVE the color, it reminds me of the ocean and tranquility and everything that calms me down in this world. That evening, we took my mom out for her Birthday dinner at the local watering hole before sending her on her way so we could grab a DVD, then head back to the house to do nothing. We had one of those nights where we literally didn't do a thing, and it was wonderful. Both of us have been go-go-go since the new year started so neither of us have really had a chance to just sit back and relax in months. The fact that both of us finally got to chill in the bedroom in the house we've been dreaming about for so long was the icing on the cake. It was short lived though, because you better believe that come Monday morning, I was putting him to work for the day! We had some lofty goals of getting the hallway, living room and kitchen primed so we could take off late afternoon and head back to our current home. It didn't take nearly as long as we thought it would and decided around 3:00 that we would stay for another night and get the painting knocked out. But doing that meant that we would also be waking up at 4am to make the 2 hour drive south so I could make it into work on Tuesday morning. Whatever it takes. I'm dedicated to getting this house move in ready so let's do this! We totally rallied and were able to get both coats done before we ran out of paint. I still need to grab another quart this week to get a few touchup spots, but for now that's another task we can check off the list! It was too dark to get any decent pics, so I'll be sure to grab some next weekend when we head back up. With that taken care of, there's only 4 things left to finish before I can call the house move-in ready. First one is white-wash the brick in the living room, second is paint the wainscoting in the living room, third is put up some new sheet rock in the backsplash region of the kitchen and lastly get the office painted. As long as we're able to wrangle up a few helpers for this coming weekend, I'm confident we can get it all done. The only thing left to do will be to move-in! Ahhhhhhh, I am SO ready for that!
